Down Range Crosswind Sensing

The Department of Defense, specifically the U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM), is seeking proposals for a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) project titled "Down Range Crosswind Sensing." The objective of this initiative is to conduct a feasibility study for a tactical, man-portable device capable of optically sensing down-range crosswind conditions, which are critical for long-range precision small-arms engagements. This device must measure crosswind speeds from 0-25 mph at distances up to 800 meters, while also considering factors such as system accuracy, power usage, and durability in various tactical environments. The Phase I feasibility study is set to begin on April 23, 2025, with a closing date for applications on May 21, 2025.
