Far Forward Manufacturing of CBRN Sensors
SBIR Opportunity Analysis
The Department of Defense’s Chemical and Biological Defense Program is seeking SBIR proposals for far-forward manufacturing of CBRN sensors. The work aims to enable on-demand, point-of-need sensors with limited logistical footprints that can detect chemical, biological, or radiological threats and provide near real-time awareness to warfighters. Phase I requires a proof of concept for a functional sensor that can detect a single threat, indicate safe versus hazardous levels, detect within five minutes, and fit within a manufacturing footprint smaller than one CONEX box, while Phase II would finalize production processes and demonstrate a 24-hour run yielding at least 20 sensors. The topic is pre-release under solicitation 25.4, opens April 15, 2026, and closes May 13, 2026 at 16:00 UTC.
