Grant Opportunity Analysis
The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration is offering the Natural Gas Distribution Infrastructure Safety and Modernization (NGDISM) Grant Program to support safety and modernization of natural gas distribution infrastructure. The grant funds municipality or community owned utilities, excluding for-profit entities and pipeline assets owned by for-profit entities, to repair, rehabilitate, or replace natural gas distribution pipeline systems or portions of them, or to acquire equipment that helps reduce incidents and fatalities and avoid economic losses. Recipients must comply with federal nondiscrimination requirements, including Title VI, Section 504, the Age Discrimination Act, and the ADA, with assurances extending to contractors, subrecipients, and property or contract instruments. The program offers awards from $10,000 to $98 million, has an estimated total funding level of $98 million, requires no cost sharing, and applications are due May 22, 2026; PHMSA will accept only one application from each applicant and does not accept mailed applications.
