Grants to Military-Connected Local Educational Agencies for the World Language Advancement and Readiness Program

The Department of War Education Activity (DoWEA) is offering discretionary grants through the World Language Advancement and Readiness Program to support world language education for military-connected K-12 students in eligible local educational agencies. The program is intended to establish, improve, or expand world language studies for PK-12 military-connected students, with projects centered on DoW Strategic Languages, early language learning, cross-subject integration, and use of technology in instruction. Eligible applicants are LEAs with schools that have at least 10% military-connected enrollment and that host, or have a pending application to host, a Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps unit; awards will run from September 30, 2026, through May 31, 2031. Applications are due April 24, 2026 and must include the required federal forms, a project narrative, and a detailed budget, with grants ranging from $500,000 to $2,000,000 and award notifications expected by September 30, 2026.
Eligible Applicants
Eligible Recipients: A Local Education Agency (LEA) with schools that have a military- connected student enrollment of 10% or greater for the 2024-2025 school year. Eligible schools must be part of an LEA that hosts or has a pending application to host a Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) unit.
