Fiscal Year 2027 Expanding Nutrition Services

The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) has released a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 Expanding Nutrition Services (ENS) program (Opportunity Number: HRSA-27-099). With an expected total funding of $125 million, HRSA plans to award approximately 357 competing supplemental grants of $350,000 annually. The program spans a two-year performance period from December 1, 2026, to November 30, 2028, with applications due by September 9, 2026. Eligible applicants are restricted to active Health Center Program (H80) award recipients funded under Section 330(e) of the Public Health Service Act. The primary goal of the ENS initiative is to increase the volume of nutrition services, patients, and visits to help prevent, manage, and treat chronic conditions. Funded health centers must establish or expand nutrition services—such as nutritional assessments, medical nutrition therapy, and food-based interventions—either directly or via contract, and integrate them into their scope of project within 120 days of the award. Up to $150,000 of the first-year budget can be utilized for one-time costs, including moveable equipment or minor alteration and renovation (A/R) projects. Applications will be evaluated based on a 100-point merit review scale assessing Need, Response, Collaboration, Impact, Capacity, and Support Requested. Recipients must comply with federal grant regulations, Uniform Data System (UDS) reporting requirements, and administration priorities, including the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) initiative promoting proper nutrition and chronic disease prevention.
