The National Institutes of Health is continuing the Cardiovascular Repository for Type 1 Diabetes (CaRe-T1D) Consortium through a cooperative agreement to advance research on cardiovascular disease in people with type 1 diabetes. The work focuses on collaborative, hypothesis-driven studies that use CaRe-T1D human cardiovascular tissue to better understand mechanisms such as atherosclerosis, cardiomyopathy, endothelial dysfunction, and cardiac autonomic neuropathy. The program emphasizes interdisciplinary research with substantial NIH programmatic involvement, allows human subjects research that is not a clinical trial, and excludes foreign organizations from applying. The award will support six to eight cooperative agreements with up to $500,000 in annual direct costs for three years, and applications are due October 9, 2026.
