Grant Opportunity Analysis
The U.S. Embassy in Kigali, on behalf of the U.S. Mission to Rwanda, is seeking proposals for the 2026 Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund to support projects led by alumni of U.S. government-sponsored exchange programs that advance U.S.-Rwanda partnerships and shared prosperity. The work is intended to fund alumni-led initiatives in areas such as economic growth, education, health, technology, or commercial collaboration, with projects expected to produce clear, measurable results and lasting partnerships. Proposals must come from eligible exchange alumni or alumni associations, include at least two alumni on each project team, and for organizational applicants require a UEI and active SAM.gov registration; the Embassy will be substantially involved and will evaluate program quality, organizational capacity, project planning, budget, monitoring and evaluation, and sustainability. Applications are due April 30, 2026, and awards are expected to range from $5,000 to $35,000 with a 6- to 12-month performance period, with cost sharing encouraged but not required.
Eligible Applicants
The following organizations are eligible to apply: ● Not-for-profit organizations, including think tanks and civil society/non-governmental organizations ● Public and private educational institutions ● Individuals ● Applicants must be alumni of a U.S. government-funded or sponsored exchange program ● Project teams must include at least two (2) alumni ● Alumni who are U.S. citizens may not submit proposals, but U.S. citizen alumni may participate as team members in a project ● Alumni teams may be comprised of alumni from different exchange programs and different countries ● Applications must be submitted by exchange alumni or alumni associations of U.S. government exchange alumni. No other organizations are eligible to apply. Exchange alumni can partner with not-for-profit or non-governmental organizations, think tanks, and academic institutions to implement project activities.
