The Experimental Therapeutics Clinical Trials Network (ETCTN) Lead Academic Organizations (UM1 Clinical Trial Required)

The National Cancer Institute, part of the National Institutes of Health, is seeking applications to establish or maintain Lead Academic Organizations for the Experimental Therapeutics Clinical Trials Network to advance early-phase cancer therapeutic development. The selected organizations will design, develop, monitor, conduct, and analyze phase 0, 1, 2, pilot, and other experimental therapeutic clinical trials involving investigational agents under NCI regulatory sponsorship, while participating in both their own and other network trials. The work also includes overseeing scientific, programmatic, financial, and administrative aspects of participating sites, mentoring early-career investigators, using the ETCTN Pharmacokinetic Resource Laboratory, and integrating molecular characterization and pharmacology into trials; eligible applicants are academic centers or organizations in the United States or Canada, and only one application is allowed per institution. NCI intends to commit $11.8 million in FY 2027 for four to six awards, with a project period not to exceed six years, and applications are due June 30, 2026.

A center/organization (e.g., an academic hospital and/or academic clinic program) for this application is distinguished from large medical centers whose primary mission is patient care. In addition to patient care, academic centers/organizations have comprehensive medical training programs, investigational pharmacies, advanced imaging facilities, and preclinical laboratories that perform basic research.The only Non-domestic (non-U.S.) Entities (Foreign Institutions) allowed in response to this NOFO are Canadian Institutions.Foreign Organizations/Foreign Collaborations:Non-domestic (non-U.S.) Entities (Foreign Organizations) are eligible to apply.Non-domestic (non-U.S.) components of U.S. Organizations are not eligible to apply.Foreign components, as defined in the NIH Grants Policy Statement, are not allowed.
