INSPIRING GENERATIONS OF NEW INNOVATORS TO IMPACT TECHNOLOGIES IN ENERGY 2026 (IGNIITE 2026)
Grant Opportunity Analysis
The Advanced Research Projects Agency–Energy (ARPA-E) is seeking grant applications for IGNIITE 2026, a program focused on supporting early-career innovators developing disruptive and unconventional energy technologies. The solicitation calls for transformational applied research and development or proof-of-concept work across the full spectrum of energy applications, with awardees also participating in ARPA-E engagement activities such as events, meetings, and mentorship. It is aimed at early-career researchers and emphasizes high-impact, high-risk ideas with the potential to create new technology trajectories, while requiring applicants to submit as standalone applicants rather than as part of a project team with subrecipients. Applications must be submitted through ARPA-E eXCHANGE, the deadline is May 29, 2026, and the opportunity lists up to $500,000 per award with an estimated $10 million in total program funding and no cost-sharing requirement.
Eligible Applicants
For-profit entities (which includes large businesses and small businesses), educational institutions, DOE/NNSA FFRDCs/DOE Labs, and nonprofits that are incorporated in the United States, including U.S. territories, are eligible to apply, and these entities must apply as a Standalone Applicant only (i.e., they cannot apply as a project team with another entity or a subrecipient). Please see NOFO Section II.A for information on Eligible Principal Investigators.
