BJA FY25 Justice Reinvestment Initiative: Strengthening State and Local Operations to Reduce Crime and Recidivism

The Bureau of Justice Assistance, part of the U.S. Department of Justice, is offering a discretionary grant to support the Justice Reinvestment Initiative focused on strengthening state and local operations to reduce crime and recidivism. The program funds projects that identify urgent local justice system challenges and use existing data to reduce wasteful spending and inefficiencies, then redirect resources toward strategies and populations most likely to improve public safety. Work may span the broader justice system, including law enforcement, prosecution, sentencing, jails and prisons, probation, and parole. Awards have no matching requirement, may reach up to $4,000,000, and applications are due June 3, 2026; questions can be directed to OJP.ResponseCenter@usdoj.gov.
