Grant Opportunity Analysis
The Department of Housing and Urban Development is accepting applications for the Eviction Protection Grant Program to fund legal assistance for low-income tenants facing or at risk of eviction. Selected grantees must provide no-cost legal services to these tenants, which includes supporting pretrial, trial, and post-trial activities, as well as alternative dispute resolution. Eligible applicants are limited to nonprofit organizations and government entities, such as legal aid providers, higher education institutions, social service organizations, and tribal agencies, while individuals and public housing agencies are excluded. The agency expects to award approximately 16 grants ranging from $500,000 to $2,000,000 each out of an estimated total program funding of $27,500,000, with applications due by February 17, 2027.
Eligible Applicants
Within the categories of eligible entities, you must be a nonprofit organization or government entity. Examples of entities that may be eligible, if requirements are met, include: 1) legal aid or legal clinic provider, 2) private nonprofit or state institution of higher education, 3) housing counseling or other social service organization that provides legal assistance, and 4) local, state, or tribal agency or court. Individuals, foreign entities, and sole proprietorship organizations, for-profit private institutions of higher education, Public Housing Agencies (PHAs), and Tribally Designated Housing Entities (TDHEs) are not eligible to compete for, or receive, awards made under this announcement.
