Crop Protection and Pest Management
Grant Opportunity Analysis
The USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture is offering the Crop Protection and Pest Management program to fund integrated agricultural research, Extension, and education activities that advance integrated pest management. The program supports projects that develop and implement new IPM technologies and address high-priority pest issues, including insects, nematodes, pathogens, weeds, invasive species, and other pest concerns. Funding is divided between the Applied Research and Development Program and the Regional Coordination Program, with evaluation focused on technical merit, personnel qualifications, project relevance, and alignment with USDA research and development priorities. The opportunity provides $8,250,000 in grants, with awards ranging from $300,000 to $1,150,000, requires matching funds that may be waived in some cases, is limited to colleges and universities, and has an application deadline of July 6, 2026; questions may be directed to grantapplicationquestions@usda.gov.
Eligible Applicants
Applicants for the CPPM program must meet all the requirements discussed in this NOFO. Failure to meet the eligibility criteria by the application deadline may result in exclusion from consideration or preclude NIFA from making an award. For those new to Federal financial assistance, NIFA’s About Grants provides highly recommended information about grants and other resources to help understand the Federal awards process. Applications may only be submitted by colleges and universities (as defined by Section 1404 of the National Agricultural Research, Extension, and Teaching Policy Act of 1977 (7 U.S.C. 3103(4)), as amended, Hispanic-serving agricultural colleges and universities, (7 U.S.C. 3103(10)), and 1994 Institutions (7 U.S.C 301 note). Award recipients may subcontract to organizations not eligible to apply provided such organizations are necessary for the conduct of the project, subject to NIFA approval.
