Limited Competition: Resources and Workforce Development for the Regional Biocontainment Laboratories

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, a component of the National Institutes of Health, is seeking to provide resources, staff, and facilities support for the Regional Biocontainment Laboratories. Funded activities include facility maintenance, operations, and biocontainment-specific training to sustain a capable biosafety level 3 workforce in the United States. This limited competition is open only to twelve specified universities hosting these facilities to support biosafety level 2 and 3 biocontainment capabilities for infectious disease research and public health emergency response. Applications will undergo standard NIH peer-review processes, and the program anticipates awarding an estimated total of $36,000,000 across approximately 12 cooperative agreements starting in August 2028.
