Cooperative Agreement for affiliated Partner with the North Atlantic Coast Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit

The U.S. Geological Survey is offering a cooperative agreement under the Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Units program to a participating partner of the North Atlantic Coast CESU for research on environmental DNA methods to detect small populations of Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle in the Hawaiian Islands. The work includes co-developing the sampling design and site selection with USGS scientists, collecting eDNA from palm trunks in the field, running laboratory assays with technical replicates, and analyzing detection probability, including possible effects of distance from a pheromone lure. The opportunity is intended to inform monitoring approaches for biosecurity and port monitoring, and any geospatial data produced with Department of the Interior funds must comply with Geospatial Data Act requirements, including use of existing GeoPlatform.gov data when available and submission of new GIS data in FGDC-compliant open formats with metadata. Applications are due by July 5, 2026 at 11:59 PM ET, and the estimated total program funding and award ceiling are $292,531 for one expected award.
