Grant Opportunity Analysis
The USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture is seeking grant applications under the FY26 Supplemental and Alternative Crops program to support expanded adaptation and increased acreage of alternative crops in the United States. The program funds integrated research and extension projects focused on crops such as oilseeds, industrial hemp, grains, and legumes, with an emphasis on improving profitability, productivity, and alignment with USDA research priorities. Projects are expected to involve region-based, multi-state research networks, and applications will be reviewed on factors including project design, outreach, interdisciplinary approach, fit with the NOFO, budget, and the quality of required plans. Approximately $1,815,036 is available, with awards ranging from $230,000 to $460,000, applications due June 25, 2026, and indirect costs limited to 30% of total federal funds awarded.
Eligible Applicants
Applicants for SAC must meet all the requirements discussed in this NOFO. Failure to meet the eligibility criteria by the application deadline may result in exclusion from consideration or preclude NIFA from making an award. Colleges and universities (as defined in section 1404 of NARETPA, 7 U.S.C. 3103), other Federal agencies, and private sector entities are eligible to submit applications. Award recipients may subcontract to organizations not eligible to apply provided such organizations are necessary for the conduct of the project.
