Grant Opportunity Analysis
The National Institute of Food and Agriculture, an agency of the United States Department of Agriculture, is seeking applications for the Urban, Indoor, and other Emerging Agricultural Production Research, Education, and Extension Initiative. Funded projects must address key production and market challenges across the food value chain, including harvesting, transportation, packaging, and market development. Applicants must align their proposals with the fiscal year 2026 priority focus on identifying and promoting the horticultural, social, and economic factors contributing to successful production in high-density, indoor, and controlled-environment settings. To support these goals, project teams must include local community organizations, with priority given to proposals involving multiple eligible cooperating applicants. Applications are due by July 27, 2026, with an estimated total program funding of $4,000,000 and individual awards ranging from $50,000 to $500,000.
Eligible Applicants
Applications may only be submitted by the following entities: (A) State Agricultural Experiment Stations; (B) Colleges and universities; (C) University research foundations; (D) Other research institutions and organizations; (E) Federal agencies; (F) National laboratories; (G) Private organizations, foundations, or corporations; (H) Individuals; or (I) Any group consisting of two or more of the entities described in subparagraphs (A) through (H).
