Grant Opportunity Analysis
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Railroad Administration is offering the FY25-26 Railroad Crossing Elimination Grant Program to fund highway-rail or pathway-rail grade crossing improvement projects that improve safety and mobility for people and goods. The program supports elimination projects and other crossing improvement work under a discretionary transportation grant. Eligible applicants include states, local governments, federally recognized Indian Tribes, public port authorities, metropolitan planning organizations, and groups of these entities, and cost sharing or matching is required. The program has an estimated total funding level of $1,146,528,000 and is expected to make about 120 awards. Applications are due June 8, 2026, through Grants.gov, with the opportunity scheduled to archive on July 8, 2026.
Eligible Applicants
i. A State (including the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and other United States territories and possessions). ii. A political subdivision of a State. iii. A federally recognized Indian Tribe. iv. A unit of local government or a group of local governments. v. A public port authority. vi. A metropolitan planning organization. vii. A group of entities described in any of paragraphs (i) through (vii).
