Continuing Enhanced National Surveillance for Prion Diseases in the United States

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention NCEZID is seeking applications to continue enhanced national surveillance for human prion diseases in the United States. The selected recipient will fund and operate a specialized center to conduct state-of-the-art diagnostic techniques, analyze brain tissue, confirm clinically diagnosed cases, and monitor for emerging transmissible spongiform encephalopathies. This cooperative agreement aims to address the nationwide shortage of facilities willing and equipped to handle potentially infectious specimens while sharing surveillance data with CDC epidemiological experts. The CDC expects to award a single cooperative agreement with a total estimated funding amount of $25,000,000, featuring an award floor of $3,000,000 and a ceiling of $25,000,000, with applications due by March 27, 2027.
