Grant Opportunity Analysis

The U.S. Department of Labor, on behalf of the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Postsecondary Education, is seeking applications for the Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Tribally Controlled Colleges and Universities Research and Development Infrastructure Grants Program to strengthen research capacity at eligible institutions. The program supports transformational investments in research infrastructure, including research productivity, faculty expertise, graduate programs, physical infrastructure, human capital development, and partnerships that increase external and sustained funding. Projects run for 48 months and must address the program’s absolute priorities, including helping HBCUs move from R2 to R1 or RCU to R2 status or improving research and development activity at TCCUs; a 1:1 match is required and indirect costs are limited to 8% of modified total direct costs. The competition has an estimated $15 million available, with awards expected between $2 million and $5 million, and applications are due June 23, 2026 by 11:59:59 p.m. Eastern Time.
