Leading Edge Acceleration Projects (LEAP) in Health Information Technology

The Department of Health and Human Services Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology is seeking applications for the Leading Edge Acceleration Projects in Health Information Technology cooperative agreement. Selected recipients will address critical gaps in health information technology development and interoperability by focusing on three areas of interest: accelerating agentic AI in clinical care and trials, expanding Lantern's API monitoring, and assessing laboratory interoperability gaps to improve standardized terminology adoption. Funded projects must foster collaboration with academic researchers and the health IT industry to identify, develop, and disseminate innovative solutions that resolve barriers to nationwide health data exchange. The agency expects to award up to three cooperative agreements with award values ranging from $500,000 to $1,000,000 for a two-year project period that includes the possibility of a third year of funding. Applications must be submitted by the closing date of July 16, 2026.
Eligible Applicants
For-profit organizations may participate in projects as members of a consortia or as a sub-recipient only. Because the purpose of this NOFO is to improve health care in the United States, foreign institutions may participate in projects as members of a consortia or as a sub-recipient only. Applications submitted by for-profit organizations or foreign institutions will not be reviewed. Organizations described in section 501(c)4 of the Internal Revenue Code that engage in lobbying activities are not eligible.
