Kidney Precision Medicine Project Recruitment Sites (U01 Clinical Trial Not Allowed)

The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, part of the National Institutes of Health, is seeking cooperative agreement applications for Kidney Precision Medicine Project Recruitment Sites to enroll people with acute kidney injury and/or chronic kidney disease into a longitudinal biopsy cohort study. The work centers on recruiting and retaining participants, safely performing kidney biopsies for research, completing enhanced physiologic phenotyping, and supporting collection of residual biopsy tissue and healthy reference tissue. Priority is given to under-enrolled populations, including acute kidney injury, as well as comprehensive phenotyping, with additional opportunities for pediatric recruitment and repeat biopsies; applicants are expected to have kidney biopsy expertise and to support biopsy costs. NIH plans to fund about eight U01 awards, with an estimated $15 million in fiscal year 2027 and up to $450,000 in direct costs annually for as long as five years, and applications are due July 10, 2026; the contact listed is NIDDK_KUH@nih.gov.
