The USDA Agricultural Marketing Service is funding the Micro-Grants for Food Security Program to help eligible state and territory agricultural agencies improve food security and expand the quantity and quality of locally grown food in food-insecure communities. The program supports competitively distributed subawards for small-scale gardening, herding, and livestock operations aimed at increasing local food production. Eligible applicants are agricultural agencies or departments in the listed U.S. states and territories, the award period is four years, and priority is given to applicants without prior funding or serving highly food-insecure communities; the program also includes a 3% administrative cost limit and a 10% cash cost-share requirement for subaward recipients. About $4.75 million is available for roughly 10 awards, and applications must be submitted through Grants.gov by June 22, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time.
Eligible Applicants
Eligible applicants are agricultural agencies or departments in Alaska, American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the Federated States of Micronesia, Guam, Hawaii, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Republic of Palau, and the United States Virgin Islands. A State department of agriculture is the agency, commission, or department of the government responsible for agriculture within the State, Territory, or Insular area.
