Early-Stage Development of Informatics Technologies for Cancer Research and Management (U01 Clinical Trial Optional)

The National Cancer Institute at the National Institutes of Health is seeking applications through a U01 cooperative agreement to support early-stage development of informatics technologies for cancer research and management. The work is intended to produce user-friendly tools that improve data acquisition, management, analysis, and dissemination across the cancer research continuum, including cancer biology, treatment, diagnosis, early detection, risk assessment, prevention, and control. Proposed projects should demonstrate clear relevance and potential impact, include mechanisms for ongoing feedback from driving research projects and other users, and follow submission requirements that include a Software and Model Sharing Plan and, for machine learning models, a model card; the listing also notes a 10% collaborative set-aside from Budget Period 2 onward. NCI expects to fund about five awards with an estimated $2.4 million in FY 2027, up to $300,000 in direct costs per year for a three-year project period, and applications are due in October 2026, June 2027, and October 2027, with questions directed to nciitcr@mail.nih.gov.
