Chemical Process Systems (CPS)

The U.S. National Science Foundation is funding the Chemical Process Systems (CPS) program to support fundamental research on chemical and biochemical processes that improve efficiency, sustainability, and resilience. The program covers research across reaction engineering, thermodynamics, reactor design, catalysis, electrochemical systems, separations, process design, and related process innovations for manufacturing, biotechnology, energy, critical minerals, food, and other national priorities. It emphasizes work that connects molecular-scale science to process and plant scales, including novel reactors, in situ and operando characterization, scalable separations, AI and machine learning for process design, and quantum-enabled tools for materials discovery and process modeling. Proposals are accepted anytime, there is no cost sharing requirement, and applicants can refer questions about the funding announcement to grantsgovsupport@nsf.gov.
