Peer Supports for Augmentative and Alternative Communication

The Administration for Community Living is funding a cooperative agreement to establish the National Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Peer Support Network. The selected recipient will lead and support the AAC Peer Support Leadership Coalition, maintain a national support hub, expand a peer support directory, create an instructional toolkit, and host bi-annual conferences. This project targets the estimated five million Americans with speech-related disabilities and must be majority-led by AAC users under a three-year period of performance from September 30, 2026, to September 29, 2029. Applications must be submitted via Grants.gov by 11:59 p.m. ET on July 22, 2026, for a single anticipated award of $775,000 per budget period with no cost-sharing requirements.
Eligible Applicants
AoD plans to fund one (1) 3-year cooperative agreement to develop sustainable peer support models for individuals who use or can benefit from the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) across the lifespan. The funded project must include, but not be limited to, individuals that use AAC, nonprofit community-based service-provider organization(s), self-advocacy organizations, youth and adults with I/DD, families, and others in their support system.
