The Administration for Community Living is offering a federal grant opportunity titled "Peer Supports for Augmentative and Alternative Communication." This initiative aims to fund a five-year cooperative agreement to develop sustainable peer support models for individuals who use or can benefit from Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) across their lifespan, specifically targeting the needs of approximately five million people in the U.S. with speech disabilities, including those with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). The project will foster a community for AAC users to share experiences and enhance awareness and usage of AAC, promoting independence and inclusion in community life. Interested applicants can apply for funding ranging from $700,000 to $775,000, with the application deadline set for May 22, 2025. Eligible Applicants
AoD plans to fund one (1) 5-year cooperative agreement to develop sustainable peer support models for individuals who use or can benefit from the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) across the lifespan. The funded project must include, but not be limited to, individuals that use AAC, nonprofit community-based service-provider organization(s), self-advocacy organizations, youth and adults with I/DD, families, and others in their support system. Foreign entities are not eligible to compete for, or receive, awards made under this announcement.
