Fiscal Year 2026 State Fire Training Systems Grants

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) have issued a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the Fiscal Year 2026 State Fire Training Systems Grants (SFTSG). Under the authority of the Federal Fire Prevention and Control Act of 1974, this noncompetitive grant program provides federal funding to state fire training systems to deliver National Fire Academy (NFA) training courses, distribute educational materials, and supplement state-level training capabilities. With a total program budget of $1,000,000, the USFA expects to issue 50 awards of a fixed $20,000 per state. Eligible applicants are limited to designated state fire training agencies, with a maximum of one application per state. No cost-sharing or matching funds are required, and indirect costs are not allowed, though management and administration costs are permitted up to 5% of the award amount. Applications must be submitted electronically through the FEMA Grants Outcomes (FEMA GO) system. The application period opens on July 1, 2026, and closes on July 31, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The projected period of performance runs from October 1, 2026, through September 30, 2027. Applications will be evaluated on a 100-point scale assessing eligibility, completeness, and the quality of both the project and budget narratives. Complete applications scoring at least 75 points will be recommended for funding, subject to the availability of federal funds.
