The National Institutes of Health is seeking applications for its Research Education Program to support educational activities that enhance the training of the biomedical, behavioral, and clinical research workforce. Funded projects must focus on mentored research experiences with clear goals, objectives, and evaluation plans to help recruit individuals to research careers and foster a deeper understanding of scientific implications. Eligible applicants include domestic higher education institutions, non-profits, for-profits, and government entities, and the proposed programs must not include clinical trials. Budgets are typically capped at $500,000 in direct costs for a maximum project period of five years. Appropriate institutional commitment to the program includes the provision of adequate staff, facilities, and educational resources that can contribute to the planned program.Institutions with existing Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) institutional training grants (e.g., T32) or other Federally funded training programs may apply for a research education grant provided that the proposed educational experiences are distinct from those training programs receiving federal support.
