FY 2026 Notice of Funding Opportunity for Small Shipyard Grants

The Maritime Administration is offering FY 2026 Small Shipyard Grants to support capital improvements and maritime training in small shipyards. The program funds projects that improve efficiency, competitiveness, and the quality of ship construction, repair, and reconfiguration. Eligible applicants are operating companies of shipyards in a single geographic location with no more than 1,200 production employees, and the facility must work on vessels at least 40 feet for commercial or government use or at least 100 feet for non-commercial vessels; grants may not be used for building construction or land acquisition, and a 25% non-federal match is required. Applications are due by May 11, 2026 through Grants.gov by noon Eastern, about $34.3 million is available, and awards are planned for July 10, 2026.
Eligible Applicants
The shipyard facility for which a grant is sought must be in a single geographic location and may not have more than 1,200 production employees. The applicant must be the operating company of the shipyard facility. The shipyard facility must construct, repair, or reconfigure vessels 40 feet in length or greater for commercial or government use, or construct, repair, or reconfigure vessels 100 feet in length or greater for non-commercial vessels.
