Description

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is offering Region 7 Fiscal Year 23-24 Wetland Program Development Grants. These grants aim to increase the quantity and quality of wetlands in the U.S. by conserving and restoring wetland acreage and improving wetland condition. The EPA is seeking to develop the capacity of all levels of government to develop and/or refine effective, comprehensive programs for wetland protection and management. The grants also aim to incorporate climate change and environmental justice considerations into wetlands programs. The total program funding is $2,300,000, with an expected number of 10 awards. The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture is offering up to $7 million in grant funds for the Wetland Mitigation Banking Program (WMBP). This program aims to develop and establish mitigation banks and banking opportunities for agricultural producers with wetlands subject to the wetland conservation compliance provisions of the Food Security Act of 1985. The program is open to federally recognized Native American tribal governments, state and local units of government, for-profit entities, nonprofits, private institutions of higher education, and public and state-controlled institutions of higher education. Priority will be given to banks in states with significant numbers of individual wetlands, wetland acres, and conservation compliance requests, such as Iowa, Michigan, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, Indiana, South Dakota, Pennsylvania, Georgia, and Ohio.
