Grant Opportunity Analysis
The U.S. Embassy Pretoria’s Public Diplomacy Section, part of the U.S. Mission in South Africa, is seeking a non-profit South African or U.S. organization to implement the EducationUSA Opportunity Funds Program 2026 as a cooperative agreement. The program is intended to help highly qualified, low-income South African students pursue undergraduate or postgraduate study in the United States by covering upfront costs they cannot afford. The work includes student recruitment and advising, standardized test preparation, application support, visa and travel logistics, and related assistance, with substantial U.S. government involvement in implementation. Eligible applicants must be non-profit organizations with a UEI and active SAM.gov registration, and proposals will be evaluated on program quality, organizational capacity, project planning, budget, monitoring and evaluation, and sustainability. Applications are due May 29, 2026, with $67,500 available and one award anticipated.
Eligible Applicants
The following organizations are eligible to apply: Only non-profit South African or U.S. organizations are eligible to apply. This includes non-profit think tanks, civil society/non-governmental organizations, and public and private educational institutions.Applicants should provide proof of their non-profit status if there is any ambiguity regarding this.
