U.S. Wildland Fire Service BLM-National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) Joint Fire Science Program (JFSP) Primary Announcement

The Bureau of Land Management, on behalf of the Joint Fire Science Program, is seeking proposals to address critical wildland fire research needs. Awarded organizations will conduct studies focused either on the drivers and consequences of changing wildfire regimes or on the air quality and health impacts of smoke from prescribed fires and wildfires. To be considered responsive, applicants must address all research needs outlined in their chosen task statement, which include developing predictive models, collaborating with land managers, or validating emission tracking methodologies. The agency expects to award approximately 10 cooperative agreements ranging from $300,000 to $500,000 each, drawing from an estimated total program funding pool of $4,000,000. Proposals must be submitted electronically through the Joint Fire Science Program website by September 17, 2026, at 5:00 PM Mountain Time.
