Dept of the Army -- Materiel Command
The federal grant notice titled "Tactical Behaviors for Autonomous Maneuver" is being offered by the Department of the Army -- Materiel Command. This grant opportunity falls under the category of Science and Technology and other Research and Development. The grant is a Cooperative Agreement type and does not require cost sharing or matching. The grant aims to develop and experimentally evaluate coordinated and individual behaviors for small groups of autonomous agents to learn doctrinal as well as novel tactics for maneuvering in military relevant environments. In the future, Army forces will need to operate and maneuver in multi-domain operations against a modern and capable peer adversary. To achieve this, novel tactics and doctrines leveraging robotics and autonomous systems (RAS) will be crucial. Teams of RAS will play a critical role in delivering situational awareness, defending key locations, or taking point in dynamic and hazardous situations. Resilience to disruptions, failures, or unexpected scenarios is a key quality for these teams to operate alongside other future Army forces. The Tactical Behaviors for Autonomous Maneuver Collaborative Research Program (TBAM-CRP) aims to develop and evaluate behaviors for small groups of autonomous agents in military relevant environments. The program will consist of a series of sprint efforts executed with annual program reviews. Each topic will focus on addressing different scientific areas that support the research aims of associated Army Research Laboratory (ARL) researchers. The program encourages collaboration between academia, industry, and government partners. The TBAM-CRP will offer five new topics on a two-year cycle, with funding provided to selected recipients under a cooperative agreement. Recipients will have access to the ARL Autonomy Stack software suite, simulation tools, and multi-agent learning support. The program encourages on-site collaboration at ARL facilities and with other recipients. Research outcomes must be demonstrated in sophisticated simulations of relevant environments. Proposals for this grant opportunity must be submitted by April 24, 2024. Eligible applicants include institutions of higher education, nonprofit organizations, for-profit organizations, and Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDC) with approval from their sponsoring agency.
