The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has announced a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) titled "Influenza Transmission Research Consortium (P01 Clinical Trial Optional)" aimed at supporting basic research into the mechanisms of human-to-human transmission of seasonal influenza virus. This initiative seeks to establish a consortium of Influenza Transmission Research Centers that will conduct collaborative, multidisciplinary research, focusing on the dynamics and drivers of influenza transmission, while also allowing studies on other seasonal respiratory viruses, provided the primary focus remains on influenza. NIH plans to allocate $8 million in FY 2026 for 2-3 awards, with each award not exceeding $2,500,000 in direct costs per year over a total project period of five years. Non-domestic (non-U.S.) components of U.S. Organizations are not eligible to apply. Foreign components, as defined in the NIH Grants Policy Statement, are not allowed.
