The Bureau of Land Management, on behalf of the Joint Fire Science Program, is administering the Fire Leaders And Managers, Emerging Scientists program to fund graduate student research in wildland fire and related sciences. Awardees must execute a new, unfunded research project that supplements their approved thesis or dissertation, participate in fire management activities, attend virtual cohort meetings, and deliver at least one science-exchange product. Proposed research must directly address the mission of the Joint Fire Science Program, specifically focusing on topic areas such as fuels management, changing fire environments, emissions, post-fire recovery, or human dimensions of fire. Proposals must be submitted electronically through the Joint Fire Science Program website by September 17, 2026, to compete for awards valued between $5,000 and $40,000 from an estimated total program budget of $500,000.
