Advancing Research on Empirically-Supported Interventions for Older Adults Living with Serious Mental Illness (SMI) (R01 Clinical Trial Optional)
Grant Opportunity Analysis
The National Institutes of Health, through the National Institute of Mental Health, is seeking R01 grant applications to advance research on empirically supported interventions for older adults living with serious mental illness. The work should focus on practice-relevant questions that improve the optimization, delivery, sustainability, and effectiveness of mental health care in settings where these adults are likely to be identified and served, such as primary care, geriatric clinics, assisted living, long-term care facilities, and community centers. The program emphasizes adapting and testing interventions, addressing barriers to access and quality, and studying systems-level approaches, with clinical trials optional and common data elements required for submission to the NIMH Data Archive. Approximately $3 million is available for an estimated 5 to 6 awards, applications are due October 15, 2026, and inquiries may be directed to NIMH.DSIR.inquiries@mail.nih.gov.
