Grant Opportunity Analysis
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is seeking applications for a cooperative agreement to fund applied research that advances automation, robotics, and intelligent mining systems to improve workplace safety and health in U.S. mining operations. Funded projects must deliver field-ready solutions designed to reduce hazardous exposures, strengthen emergency communications, improve low-visibility self-escape, and enhance overall refuge performance. Congressional intent restricts eligibility to U.S. academic institutions that offer both an ABET-accredited undergraduate program in mining or mineral engineering and graduate programs in both mining engineering and explosives engineering. The program has an estimated total funding of $10,000,000 to support approximately two awards, with an award ceiling of $2,000,000 per award. Eligible Applicants
Non-domestic (non-U.S.) Entities (Foreign Institutions) are not eligible to apply. Non-domestic (non-U.S.) components of U.S. Organizations are not eligible to apply. Foreign components, as defined in the HHS Grants Policy Statement, are not allowed.Congress intends for the award to go to a U.S. academic institution that (1) offers an ABET accredited undergraduate program in mining or mineral engineering (under the Mining and Similarly Named Engineering Programs criteria) and (2) offers graduate programs in both mining engineering and explosives engineering.
