Feasibility Studies to Inform the Design of Future Clinical Trials
Grant Opportunity Analysis
The National Institutes of Health is preparing a grant opportunity to support feasibility studies that will inform the design and conduct of future definitive clinical trials. The work will focus on studies that help plan later efficacy, effectiveness, pragmatic, dissemination and implementation, or phase/stage II and later trials, including assessment of recruitment, randomization, retention, intervention delivery, data collection, adherence, acceptability, and refinement of intervention components or protocols. Applications should show that the feasibility research is scientifically necessary for the later trial and should strengthen the rigor and reproducibility of the future trial methods, with an emphasis on projects that could ultimately have a significant public health impact. Applications are not being accepted yet; the notice is meant to give applicants time to prepare collaborations and responsive projects, with an estimated synopsis posting date of November 24, 2026, a close date of February 16, 2027, and contact by email through the NCCIH Division of Extramural Research Program Officer.
