The National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) has posted a grant opportunity titled "Food Safety Outreach Program". The purpose of this program is to complement and expand the national infrastructure of the National Food Safety Training, Education, Extension, Outreach, and Technical Assistance Competitive Grants Program.
The Food Safety Outreach Program aims to provide customized training to members of the target audiences, specifically owners and operators of small to mid-sized farms, beginning farmers, socially-disadvantaged farmers, small processors, or small fresh fruit and vegetable merchant wholesalers. The program seeks to address the needs of these individuals by developing and implementing food safety training, education, extension, outreach, and technical assistance projects.
Entities eligible to apply for this grant include the Cooperative Extension Service for a U.S. state or territory, non-government organizations and/or community-based organizations representing owners and operators of farms, small food processors, or small fruit and vegetable merchant wholesalers, federal, state, local, or tribal agencies, institutions of higher education, or collaborations of two or more eligible entities.
The grant has an estimated total program funding of $9,600,000, with an award ceiling of $1,000,000 and an award floor of $75,000. It is expected that 25 awards will be granted. The closing date for applications is February 13, 2024, and the archive date is March 14, 2024.
