Lifespan Respite Care Program: State Grants
Grant Opportunity Analysis
The Administration for Community Living is seeking applications from eligible state agencies for the Lifespan Respite Care Program to advance respite services for family caregivers of children and adults across all age groups, disabilities, and chronic conditions. Grantees will develop or enhance coordinated state and local lifespan respite systems, provide direct respite services, recruit and train a screened respite workforce, and improve caregiver access to information. Applicants must choose between Option A for establishing or rebuilding core respite infrastructure, or Option B for enhancing existing lifespan respite programs, and proposed projects will be evaluated on project relevance, approach, impact, and organizational capability. Applications require a 25 percent non-federal cost-match and a mandatory Memorandum of Understanding between the state agency and the state respite coalition. The application deadline is July 22, 2026, with an estimated total program funding of $13.29 million over a three-year performance period, and inquiries can be directed to Kari Benson at AoA.OAA@acl.hhs.gov.
Eligible Applicants
Based on statutory requirements for the Lifespan Respite Care Program authorized by Congress in 2006 under Title XXIX of the Public Health Service Act (42 U.S.C 201), and the Lifespan Respite Care Reauthorization Act of 2020, awards may only be made to eligible state agencies administering the state"s program under the Older Americans Act of 1965 or Title XIX of the Social Security Act (Medicaid), or those designated by a Governor to administer the state"s program under this title. The eligible state agency is or works with an Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC)/No Wrong Door System and works in collaboration with a public or private nonprofit statewide respite care coalition or organization. Foreign entities are not eligible to compete for, or receive, awards made under this announcement.
