Cooperative Agreement for Affiliated Partner with the Alaska Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit (CESU)

The U.S. Geological Survey is seeking applications for a cooperative agreement to partner with the Alaska Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit to conduct competitive research for the National and Regional Climate Adaptation Science Center. The selected partner will investigate how spruce beetle disturbances in Alaska's boreal forests influence the establishment and spread of invasive European bird cherry, how this invasion affects native plant regeneration, and how changing weather events alter these ecosystem dynamics. The project's outcomes are intended to inform management and control decisions made by partners like the U.S. Forest Service and the Alaska Division of Forestry and Fire Protection. Eligible applicants must be participating partners of the Alaska Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit Program, and applications must be submitted electronically by September 11, 2026, for an award with an estimated total funding ceiling of $453,203.
