Research, Education, and Outreach on Botanical Natural Products

This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO), issued by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Human Foods Program, announces a single-source cooperative agreement (RFA-FD-26-011) titled "Research, Education, and Outreach on Botanical Natural Products." Only the University of Mississippi is eligible to apply for this single-source funding. The purpose of this five-year cooperative agreement is to support public safety by evaluating the safety of botanical ingredients used in U.S. foods, dietary supplements, and cosmetics. Key objectives include identifying and prioritizing botanical ingredients based on safety concerns, acquiring and characterizing authenticated reference materials, exchanging technical information and analytical methods with FDA scientists, and coordinating scientific workshops and training. The FDA intends to commit up to $5,100,000 in FY 2026 for one award. The total recommended funding across the five-year project period is structured as follows: $5,100,000 for Year 1, $3,500,000 for Years 2 and 3, and $4,000,000 for Years 4 and 5, subject to annual appropriations and performance. Applications must be submitted electronically through Grants.gov by August 21, 2026. Because this is a cooperative agreement, substantial joint scientific and programmatic collaboration is anticipated between FDA scientists and the recipient.
