The Rhode Island Army National Guard is conducting market research for a commercial-off-the-shelf handheld Explosive Trace Detector to support mailroom and package screening at its East Greenwich, Rhode Island facility. The requirement is for a lightweight device that can operate standalone and detect trace levels of a wide range of explosive compounds using both vapor/sniffing and particulate swabbing methods. The proposed ETD must meet detailed performance characteristics including nanogram-level detection, a maximum weight of 6.0 pounds, at least eight hours of battery life, an IP54 ruggedized housing, detection alerts, internal record storage, data export capability, warranty coverage, and training support.
