Surface Velocity Profile Drifter System (Ice Tracker)
Contract Opportunity Analysis
The Department of the Navy, NAVSUP Fleet Logistics Center Norfolk, intends to award a firm-fixed-price, sole-source contract to Pacific Gyre for 55 Surface Velocity Profile Drifter System buoys in support of the U.S. Interagency Arctic Buoy Program. The procurement requires the delivery of 40 air-deployed buoys compatible with C-130 and C-17 cargo aircraft and 15 surface-deployed buoys for ice-based operations. These rugged drifting buoys must withstand harsh polar freeze/thaw cycles and include GPS positioning, Iridium satellite telemetry, drift tracking, and sea surface temperature and air pressure sensors. Delivery must occur within 90 days of contract award to the Fleet Weather Center in Norfolk, Virginia, or the Polar Science Center at the University of Washington, with quotes due by September 11, 2026.
