TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER OPPORTUNITY: Smart Enclosure using RFID for Inventory Tracking (MSC-TOPS-72)
Contract Opportunity Analysis
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration Technology Transfer Program is soliciting inquiries from companies interested in commercializing, manufacturing, and marketing its patented smart enclosure technology using radio-frequency identification for inventory tracking. The licensed technology employs traditional RFID cavities, resonators, and filters to generate standing electromagnetic waves within an enclosed volume, enabling the highly accurate tracking of individual items regardless of placement or movement on a conveyor belt. This innovation utilizes contained electromagnetic fields to improve read accuracy and lower tag antenna costs, making it a viable and cost-effective solution for tagging small items in waste receptacles, storage containers, and grocery checkout stations. NASA provides no funding for these potential exclusive or nonexclusive licensing agreements, and no follow-on procurement will result from this notice. Interested parties must submit a license application through the NASA Automated Technology Licensing Application System, and questions may be emailed to Agency-Patent-Licensing@mail.nasa.gov.
