Request for Information (RFI): MIL-STD-188-164 and MIL-STD-188-165 Industry Week

The Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) issued a Request for Information (RFI) to gather industry feedback on proposed changes to two military standards: MIL-STD-188-164 (Interoperability of Super High Frequency Satellite Communications Terminals) and MIL-STD-188-165 (Interoperability of Super High Frequency Satellite Communications Phase-Shift Keying Modems). The Department of Defense (DoD) seeks comments on published changes and input for future updates, particularly regarding the adoption of digital intermediate frequency (DIF) terminals and modems, including virtual platforms. Key areas of interest include ensuring DIF interoperability, managing non-linear characteristics of Gallium Nitride (GaN) amplifiers, and addressing virtual modem software-to-platform interoperability, hardware requirements, and transmission security (TRANSEC). Industry responses are due by July 17, 2026, and an Industry Week for discussions will be held from August 3-7, 2026, at NIWC Pacific Topside.
