SOLE SOURCE - Atomic Force Microscope

The United States Naval Academy (USNA) Chemistry Department is issuing a combined synopsis/solicitation (N0018926Q0002) for the sole-source procurement of one Bruker MultiMode 8-HR atomic force microscope (AFM) system. This acquisition aims to support advanced research in high-resolution imaging and nanoscale characterization, as well as enhance midshipmen's research and coursework. The new system will upgrade the department's existing Bruker MultiMode 8, offering improved resolution, speed, and nanomechanical/electrical measurement capabilities while ensuring compatibility with current equipment. Bruker Nano, Inc. has been identified as the sole viable source due to the specialized nature of the technology and the need for compatibility and support. The USNA Chemistry Department requires a sole-source procurement of the Bruker MultiMode 8-HR Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) system. This is due to its exclusive compatibility with their existing 2015 Bruker AFM system, ensuring the continued use of previously purchased application modules and avoiding significant costs and research time associated with a different manufacturer. The MultiMode 8-HR offers proprietary imaging modes crucial for research, including PeakForce Tunneling AFM (TUNA), PeakForce Quantitative Nanomechanics (MM-PFQNM), and TappingMode, which enable high-resolution and non-destructive analysis of various sample surfaces. It also features Bruker's ScanAsyst technology for automatic image optimization and enables fluid imaging for biological, biochemical, and chemical systems. The system is highly upgradeable with
