The Department of Defense, on behalf of the 418th Flight Test Squadron at Edwards Air Force Base, is seeking proposals for the Helpful Airborne Wireless Communication Ecosystem Yielding Enhanced Sharing project. The selected contractor will design, build, and deliver two copies of a self-contained, portable, and carry-on/off wireless communications network to connect test team members on aircraft such as the C-17, KC-135, and KC-46. The ad-hoc system must utilize existing Wi-Fi or Bluetooth protocols, support at least 32 iOS and Android devices running commercial VOIP software, and interface with the aircraft's existing intercom via a U-174 connector without requiring aircraft modification. The contractor must deliver the prototype systems within 180 days after receipt of order and provide hardware and software specifications to support airworthiness and cybersecurity approvals.
