Trade and Cargo Academy
Contract Opportunity Analysis
The Department of the Army Corps of Engineers Charleston District has a requirement to construct a Trade and Cargo Academy and a separate Cargo Security and Seized Property Training Facility at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in North Charleston, South Carolina. The project scope involves hazardous material abatement and selective demolition of an existing three-story, 30,000-square-foot building while preserving the main lobby and maintaining utility services. Work includes constructing a new 28,400-square-foot, two-story, flood-resilient academy and a 5,985-square-foot, one-story training facility, both elevated on deep pile foundations with pile-supported slabs to meet high-wind, seismic, and floodplain requirements. These facilities must be engineered for a minimum 40-year operational lifespan utilizing highly durable, low-maintenance coastal materials compliant with federal energy standards and Department of Homeland Security security criteria.
