A Study on Vessel Design Challenge
Contract Opportunity Analysis
The U.S. Maritime Administration is seeking proposals for a Vessel Design Challenge to fund multiple design teams willing to undertake integrated design work for the next generation of domestic commercial vessels. Selected teams must develop preliminary vessel designs that improve fuel efficiency by at least 30 percent and significantly reduce underwater radiated noise compared to conventional designs. Proposals will be evaluated on the feasibility of their technology integration, methodological rigor for modeling, team capabilities, project timeline, and budget justification. Individual awards are expected to range from $150,000 to $450,000, with a total available program funding of up to $1.25 million and a project timeline of 12 to 18 months. Twenty-page maximum proposals must be submitted via email to Contract Specialist Christian Onwudiegwu and Kelly Mitchell-Carroll within 120 days of the solicitation's publication.
